Kintzley’s Ghost Honeysuckle

If you’re looking for an attractive vine, look no further than Kintzley’s Ghost honeysuckle (Lonicera reticulata ‘P015S’). This climbing, water-wise vine has circular leaves (aka, “bracts”) that look like silver dollars. In June, yellow flowers appear across the plant, attracting pollinators and hummingbirds. In the fall, the bracts turn yellow and orange hues—perfect for autumn.

The Beauty of Climbing Vines

Vines offer so much to landscapes, but they’re often overlooked. Kintzley’s Ghost honeysuckle can:

  • Create vertical interest, pulling your eyes up and adding texture.
  • Mask the not-so-pretty elements in your yard.
  • Offer privacy from neighbors.
  • Offer nectar to pollinators and provide protection to small birds during thunderstorms.

Kintzley’s Ghost honeysuckle will grow in full sun to part shade. It can take a year to get fully established. But once its roots are settled in, get ready to see it take off!

If you’d like to see the full-grown Kintzley’s Ghost honeysuckle in person, you can find it at Denver Botanic Gardens—the York Street location. It grows up the trellises on the east side of the Monet Pool. It’s a showstopper!

Tested for Colorado

This unique honeysuckle is part of the Plant Select program. Plant Select is a non-profit collaboration between Denver Botanic Gardens, Colorado State University and professional horticulturists.

Plant Select finds and tests plants for multiple years to ensure they’re not only beautiful, but they’re also low water, resilient, resistant to disease, and more. The plants they select have been tested for Colorado landscapes, so gardeners of all skill levels can be more successful using fewer resources.
